Who Can Provide Care?

Provider types

The Alternative Payment Program (APP) offers different subsidized child care programs, and parents from those programs choose their child care provider. Each subsidized child care program has specific requirements on the types of child care providers that participating parents can choose from. Below is a brief description of the three different provider types:

License-exempt providers

If you are a license-exempt provider and you are interested in caring for the children of a family enrolled in one of our subsidized child care programs, please note that you must be selected by that family. APP does not provide services to link license-exempt providers to enrolled families.

Licensed family child care providers

Care is provided in the licensee’s own home and reflects a home-like environment. Non-medical care and supervision is provided for periods of less than 24 hours. This provider type has a license to provide child care.

If you have a licensed family child care home and are not currently registered with our Child Care Resource & Referral (CCR&R) Program, call us at (559) 675-8469 to be placed on the Child Care Provider Referral Database for Madera County. You will be asked to update your information every three to six months.

Licensed child care centers

Care is usually provided in a commercial building. Non-medical care and supervision is provided for periods of less than 24 hours. This provider type has a license to provide child care.
If you have a child care center and are not currently registered with Child Care Resource & Referral (CCR&R) Program, call us at (559) 675-8469 to be placed on the Child Care Provider Referral Database for Madera County. You will be asked to update your information every three to six months.
