I have a child with special needs, can he attend a Head Start center?

We believe that young children with special needs have the right to be included in our Head Start classrooms. Quality services for young children with special needs must include several components such as a program design which addresses the unique learning style of a young child, a strong commitment to family involvement, interagency coordination and cooperation, on-going staff development and program evaluation. From identification to transition, we believe that effective intervention occurs only if a team approach is used.

My child has never been in a childcare/preschool setting, what types of support can I expect?

In order to provide a smooth transition for children entering into Head Start, the program has developed the following activities to make the transitions a positive experience.

The application is still taken even if the family is over income. However, priority will be given to income eligible families. If all income eligible families have been selected, there’s a potential that your child will be selected to participate. Additionally, the Advocate can provide you with information regarding other preschool services in the community.
